MUSIC el LOCALE
Malaysian local music artists are actually talented but then again... The patriotism isnt there.. most locals just dont really listen to local bands... OK i am one of them... but I do listen to the really good ones. There are many factors that cause this to happen.
1. Originality isnt there. Its mostly a rip off from foreign songs... eg; K-town klan's new song. at first i tot it was lil' Jon.. coz they put in the 'yeyeah' and the 'wutt' in it... cmon... that is just plain pathetic. using this gimmick to make the song more well heard? No doubt the song is good... but it is just not right. Its all ended up to be known as a rip off. Jason Lo... ok not bad. but not enough publicity! we dun hype up our local english artist!! Dragon red... also good.. but they dun really rock the party! we need a formula where local artist can rock up the local scene! and not just plain concert... where ppl go there enjoy the music and leave. without caring or have the urgency to buy the album.
2. Publicity isnt there... too much piracy and worse... english song artists are just not exposed enough. there are fans but there are not fanatics. Malay and chinese song artists are actually more well off as they get publicity. Thats y they have a bigger fan base! maybe if they manage to reach the international market then they might actually have some sales.. Poetic Ammo did touch abit my music list. their song 'ammunition check' is actually cool. new age that came out at the wrong time. But thats just it. KRU? nothing much... The hype is just not there!
3. Love for foreign music. typical malaysian... just look at the FHM 100 sexiest women poll. we have more foreign gals compared to locals. We just love foreign meat??! i dont know. I listen to good music. So if locals are good i will listen. thats it!
4. Music that touchs! People listen to music to ease their feeling. Certain music just helps calms the situation or change the mood of the scene. So can local artist do it? Create a music where it touches the people? make ppl feel special when they listen to it? Or a song where it can pump up the crowd?? Or just plain song wit a malaysian touch in it. Show some local power. not jaguh kampung but a sprinkle of local flavour. Reshmonu? maybe. but more spice! to stir the crowd!
5. Too much censorship! enough said! this cannot say... that cannot say... this cannot wear... concert cannot jump... so many restriction! how to express freely then... female artist wear abit skimpy.. cannot perform. Rock star that trying to rock the party cannot jump! hip hop without vulgaraties? cmon... too tight...
If we are to move our music industry forward many things have to be look through! and ammended!
