Courtesy... My Arse!!
I was just reading an article on the June's Reader Digest the other day. They were talking about courtesy. What happen to the "Good Manners" in the world... I can say it's mostly down the drain.
In Asia, we are taught to be polite, caring, helpful and all but we miss the utmost important part of it... Knowing is probably just 1/2 of good manners... to practice it is the other 1/2. The article mentioned that Asia is the worst mannered people. And I agree with it.
Imagine, one day, my brother's friend was on the LRT and he surrender his seat for an elderly. GUESS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? I am sure you got it right.... some young punk just slide and took the seat. Where have all the manners gone to!! Are we to blame the parents for the lack of parenting skill or should we blame the media?
A research was done.
Scenario 1
A lady "accidently" dropped her files and the documents were scattered on the floor. And do you know who was the only person who helped? The street cleaners. You might say they just don't want the street they clean dirty but at least they helped!! Other even stepped on the documents!!
Scenario 2
A friend's sister was crossing the road and a motorist hit her. She flew on the vehicle and fell on the ground. Imagine it's an accident scene in front of a high traffic (human and vehicle) area and who helped? Only an Alam Flora worker and a taxi driver. What happened to the people around the area?? They suddenly turn blind or is the accident just invinsible??
Scenario 3
Openning the door for you? Forget it! You might end up having a smashed nose. The courtesy is to open the door then make sure no one is behind you before you let go of the door to shut it. But people don't do that! Some says, " I am not a doorman to open YOUR door!".
Tell me... what has the world come to? I guess everyone should probably start by learning how to say, "Thank you" at 1st. Then maybe the next thing everyone should learn how to think of others who need help more other then yourself. I know it's a dog eat dog world but good manners won't hurt anyone!
