LOCAL SPORTS MENTALITY- esp football!
After watching the all mighty treble winning, big team killing all conquering Selangor.... well well... look where are they now... second from bottom of the table... and letting in the most goals... well my fren asked me... "wut happen to Selangor la... ??" i told him... it is normal. i saw it happened b4. the last time Selangor won the Malaysia Cup the following season they got relegated. As long as u got Malaysians in it, the team will not be consistent... for a long time. yes, we have thet "Malaysia Boleh" thing in all of us. well this is the thing... when the national team performs properly... we will be proud Malaysians... but when the team slacks... everyone will just hide n criticise. The problem with this is the mentality of our ppl. we dont really have anything to drive us or push us. For instance... look at the African nations... they are not blessed with lavish stadiums, fields and high end facilities but look at them.....but they still made it. they knows wut is hardship and so they usually put all of their effort just to make it big so they can come out of poverty. ok, forget about the africans... look at the brazillians. yes samba and all is one of their excuses or wut u call that... Ginga that makes their magical football work. but deep in the core of it is bcoz they need the cash to survive... and of course to live up to the country's name in producing good footballers. one main thing that makes all this mighty footballing country is passion, pride and tradition. The honour and pride to put on the national jersey and they will do everything to defend thet jersey!
Well as we Malaysian couldnt understand why we perform so badly with all this high tech facilities... even the national coach couldn't understand how his team just crumble in the last 20 mins during the tiger cup lost to Indonesia. From a 2-1 lead in the first leg... in indonesia... then back in bukit jalil for the second leg we took a 1-0 lead in the first half, only to crumble in the second half to a 1-4 lost. I got a reason why.... its the lack of winning mentality... i was at the stadium itself... the atmosphere was electrifying. but wut i saw in the last 15 minutes was a clear sign of lack mental resilience! i cant remember that player's name... but he is the left back then.. imagine... the indon player was just a few meters away from him... in the malaysian half... he just walk towards him... and when the indon player dribbled pass him... he makes no effort to track him down... and the left winger instead have to track him down.... well.... i let u judge on that... is it lack of mentality and physical power or wut...? cmon man.... when we played against New Zealand last time we lost i still can accept that the new zealander won in the physical aspect... as they were more taller and build and they got a few players plying their trades in europe. but the Indons.... they are the same physical size...and most of them playing amateur football in their own country... but yet they still trash us physically and mentally.... not to say footbally! Now i rather our players play instead as a pro but as amateur footballers just like the glory days in our nations footballing years.... the 60's n 70's and a lil' in the 80's.
Alot of my friends says that there is no future in footballing career in Malaysia... well... that is the thing! all sports got no career in da future if u dont put all wut u got in. Look at nicol davids... she so far now is the glimmer of light of the country. she dedicated her life to squash. and of course she got the mentality to do it. our badminton players... we are good... but we are not great. no matter how much we do... we are always playing second fiddle to China and Indonesia. Why... why???! well... simple... we are just not good enough. JUST not GOOOD ENOUGH mentally and physically! then again if u are good in anything there is always a future! be it football or lawnbowl, heck even dart can be good enuff. That is why our country is so slow in da sports. it is bcoz of all this ppl, some influenced by parents and some just dowan to make the difference, and because of that... they drag everyone along with them as in influencing them.
There are many of my friend that is a good sportsmen n women during my skool days, football, basketball or atheletics but all of them ended up studying college and working normal jobs now. WHAT HAPPENED????!?!?! Well, of course i am not ruling out one of the main problem that cause all of this to happen... is...well favouritism that is... i am not to mention further. but if u are malaysian u will understand what i mean.
As long as we have this mentality, we will never improve. we can criticise and brag about how bad malaysian football or sports is playing but end of the day... we are the main cause of this to happen!
